It’s about our future. — Mike Hamann

I thought I was happily retired from local politics and government until Donald Trump, Elon Musk and MAGA began tearing apart people’s lives — including ours.

DOGE took away my autistic stepson’s Social Security Disability without any reason. Our South American son-in-law — who is a naturalized U.S. citizen — did not travel home this year because he did not want to risk being snatched up by ICE. I’ve watched our Latino students have to brave the reality of ICE coming after their families.

And, we’ve endured our St. Joseph County Council ignoring the needs of our neighbors — like decent jobs, affordable housing and quality local health care — while instead parroting the same mindless, performative and cruel MAGA policies of the Trump regime.

Our family could no longer turn a blind eye. We had to act. That’s why I am running for County Council District A.

We humbly ask you to join us in our fight against cruelty and stupidity with an agenda centered on common sense, competence and compassion.

Mike Hamann grew up in South Bend and graduated from Marian High School. After earning a BA in History as well as master’s in American History and Theology from the University of Notre Dame, Mike went on to spend four decades teaching high school students social studies and theology.

He also served the residents of St. Joseph County for nearly twenty years in the capacity of County Commissioner, Councilman and Auditor.

Mike married his high school sweetheart, Mary, and together had four children.  After Mary’s passing, Mike married Lori Mazick in 2014. Between them they have seven children and eleven grandchildren.
